MAURITIUS - PORT LOUIS

Port Louis, capital of the island of Mauritius in which is approximately one-sixth of Mauritius. Taking half day or a whole to visit the capital of island during his holiday in Mauritius, is purely a matter of taste. Finally, much Europeans spend their holiday in this island to erase daily stress and routine of big cities. Unfortunately, Port Louis tends to be same going of  a large city over a large area with all that implies: Stress, agitation, many traffic, exhaust, noise etc.

Jardin de la compagnie

The Museum of photography: see the evolution and the development of Mauritius in photo. They are classified by topic (slavery, exploitation of sugarcane, railway), you should know that  photo arrived early on the island.

Chinatown located on Royal street neighborhood. At the entrance to two huge Chinese doors stands strait as you arrive in the neighborhood. A little further, stands the Jummah mosque (1852).

The Central market of Port Louis, an essential step for tourists in search of exoticism. The market was built between 1839 and 1945. You can find all the local produce: fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, spices and herbal teas, craft. Behind the market, you can admire the beautiful Municipal Theatre (from the 18th century) and the St. Louis Cathedral (1770).  You can unveil former colonial houses everywhere.

Caudan Waterfront:  visit this recent and rather successful commercial centre (shops, galleries of art, bookstore, agencies, restaurants, cinema, leisure...) which faces the Port.
At the end of the driveway framed by the Duke of Edinburgh avenues, stands the beautiful and nostalgic Hotel of the Government. A statue of Queen Victoria sits in the Court of honors of this colonial building French of the 18th century, home of Governors of the island. Over the Place d'Armes,  administrative buildings including the companies and banks headquarters.

In front of central post, are again the halls of the popular and colorful Central market sell clothing, fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, spices and herbal teas, craft...
You can also visit the Museum of natural history, the Mauritius Institute, which proposed a reconstruction of the wonderful dodo disappeared in the 17th century, to taxidermies animals. Ancient manuscripts...Paved street of Old Council (broadside of old houses and museums), the rue de champ de Mars is the hippodrome of Port-Louis, once a military site, it is privileged places for  enthusiastic fellows who come every weekend attending the horse races.
